I was having tea by my pond the other day when I became acutely aware of the sun's movement in the sky. It'd popped out from behind a tree & was causing me to squint. I moved my chair so the sun was out of my eyes & sure enough a few minutes later I was squinting again. This wasn't the first time I've noticed the sun moving across the sky but it did get me thinking about sundials. Later that day I did a Google search for "DIY sundials". That's when I came across the Shadows program:

This is a great piece of software that helps you design a sundial. Best of all, its free. Well the basic functions are free. If you want to get into more complicated sundials you can upgrade to the pro version for a small fee. For this project I used the free version. You can download Shadows at www.shadowspro.com
