MDF can be successfully painted if enough attention to surface preparation is made. I spent many hours sanding, filling in gaps & producing a nice smooth surface. I then masked the woofer holes & bass ports in preparation for the paint.

Adding just a dusting at a time, I sprayed on the primer. Sanding between coats to produce a nice solid silky smooth base.

Next came the matt black paint. Again I sprayed on just a dusting at a time & sanded between the initial coats.

Eventually I built up a nice smooth finish. After showing these to a friend he asked how I made the "plastic face plates". I guess that could be taken as a complement for my paint job. Although I'm not sure I like the idea of people thinking my masterpiece is made from plastic. But what can you do?
